CS5

Illustrator CS5 was announced yesterday. It is gratifying that new functions of it make some of my scripts useless. I'll purchase an Ai CS4 with an upgrade coupon for Windows at an early date.

Tha plan that I purchase a Mac was suspended. I'm not interested in the platform that keeps offering sudden unexpected limitations to developers.

The last sentence of the above article might be not fun for Mac users. I'm sorry for that. Please see the comments for the detail of the limitations which I have concern about.

  1. Hi, just out of curiosity: What are those unexpected limitations to developers you talk about?

  2. They are as follows for example.

  3. Sorry to hear that. I am very fond of your blog, and I am a Mac user. The restrictions you mention apply to development for iPhone OS, not MacOS, which make your decision look a bit unfair to me.

  4. iPhone and Mac are too close to say different. I know it's not the Mac users' responsibility, but I think it's obvious that Apple is bringing to the developers the feeling that it is a company that easily ignores the efforts of them.
I'm really interested in MacOS itself and just put the plan on hold until I can accept the Apple's way. I respect the efforts to bring the value for everyone, not for a company. I think now they are on the position that should do the former.

  5. I'm another Mac user who's disappointed to hear this. I hope Apple's restrictions on the iPhone OS don't discourage you away from the Mac OS much longer. In the meantime, keep up the great work.

  6. I hope they'll do so, too. As a customer, it just requires acceptable, if not empathetic, corporate strategy to purchase its products.

  7. Will you Mac users ever shut up? Man, it's like we're making fun of your dearest children or something. Get over it, it's just a system. (OMG No it's not! it's a way of life!!! I hear you scream)

Even if the restrictions are more apparent in the iPhone OS thing, you should agree that Apple philosophy is to get everything under their control. And that my friends, has negative points as well.

  8. Yea, but no control has the ability to go awry. Look at Japan and Germany after WW1.
OK, so Apple is a control freak. While I am sure that there are difficulties at the fringe, there are some good things about it as well. Apple has forced a design ethic, of which some of these restrictions are probably responsible for Apple wanting to maintain a look and feel. that goes back for many years. Its a trade off. Can Apple both satisfy the craven desires for porn and peddle its wares to families that have children. Maybe its a business decision, in any case, I prefer to live under Apple today than Germany or Japan in the years leading up to WW2. While Apple has probably gone further than it should, the real reason, I think, for its control is to make it a secure platform for content delivery, for that will be the cash cow of the future.
